"Sometimes we just gotta say it out loud to see it"- advice from a nurse friend of mine.
After reading my post about me feeling anxious and getting a high blood pressure reading, my friend messaged me and let me know that I could reach out to her if I needed any unsolicited advice from a nurse.
I was telling her that this feeling I was having was a "normal/everyday feeling for me".... which of course was a huge red flag.
So she began with a series of questions.
Do you have downtime for yourself?
- HAHA ummmm does sleeping count. (Honestly, after work- I work full time as a chauffeur for my children, then the usual "before bed" routines at home like dinner, getting clothes ready, showers, etc.)
Her reply and follow up question were....
"It depends; do you get 8 hours of sleep? .... DON'T SAY 5."
- Can I say 5.5? lol (if I am lucky, I will get 6 hours of sleep and that is not every night)
Ding Ding . There you go ... Sleep deprivation
Do you drink coffee???
That is when I was ready to hide in the bushes.
- YESS! Every Morning.
Water intake?
(now I am running to the bushes)
my water intake is horrible! I usually have a large coffee in the morning, a coke zero mid-day and sometimes depending on my day an energy drink in the afternoon. at times not an ounce of water.
I sometimes skip lunch, because I have paperwork to complete and I do not want to stop working. Do I walk or exercise? (I asked the next question to myself) No- No I do not....
At this point I realized... "OMG I am killing myself slowly with these daily habits."
Her Reply "Sometimes we just gotta say it out loud to see it."
You are pushing your body to its limits, and it is letting you know there needs to be a change. >
She said - ask my husband, I am always bugging him to drink water, eat correctly, and exercise.
and I said yep, my husband does the same thing to me.
Well... Yes. My husband has been telling me all of this for a long time, and no I have not listened.
After hearing my nurse friend advice and 3 other doctors tell me that I need to sleep better, drink a lot more water, cut the caffeine, and start taking brisk walks, I could FEEL my husband's GRIN getting bigger. UGH
He even asked one doctor -"So doctor can she be dehydrated, how can we help with dehydration?" like come on we all know its DRINK WATER. But he tells the doctor, "IDK maybe if she hears it from you or anyone else, she will start. Well now I feel bad listening when I knew all along, he was right. lol
So anyway, I am 6 days UNcaffeinated (I have 2 DECAF coffees...boring). I have gone on ONE walk (it's something). We are trying to start making food at home instead of buying takeout. ohhhh and I am making time for myself as well.
Do I feel better? Ummmm idk yet, but I am hoping the small changes I am making help me feel better soon.
Then again... we are on Thanksgiving Break and so I am kinda scared I will start with all my big feelings once school starts again.
